Panasonic Plasma

Panasonic VX100 Plasma monitors.

There can be no doubt that Pioneer reigned supreme in the flat screen market for many years, until they finally bowed out after consistently losing money in the category. This has left a gap in the market, and a number of players have been scrambling to fill this void.
It has now become clear that this mantle is to pass to Panasonic with the release of their new ‘VX100’ screens. This can be in part attributed to the fact that Panasonic have hired the team responsible for the Pioneer Kuro range.

According to the Dave Jenson review on Channelnews.com ‘If the VX100 is anything to go by, they (Panasonic) have not only learnt from the strengths of the KURO but surpassed them as well. The VX100 is nothing short of breathtaking.
The Panasonic VX100 is a dream TV.  It is not something most of us will ever get to experience, let alone be able to afford but for those with deep pockets, it is the best that plasma technology currently has to offer.’
Other overseas reviews have a common theme, and are daring to speak the unspeakable – that the new Panasonic offering is superior to the hallowed Pioneer Kuro.

There are two models in the range. The 50” TH-50VX100W and the 65” TH-65VX100W. Both are monitor designs, meaning that they do not include built in tuners or speakers, on the assumption that a screen of this quality (and price) will be used in a Home Theatre set-up. All aspects of connectivity have been covered, and can be customised with a range of upgradeable terminal boards.

As an additional bonus anyone who purchases either of the two models will receive a free in-home ISF screen calibration (valued at $399.) This is carried out 4-6 weeks following the installation of the screen, allowing the panel to run-in before the picture adjustments are made to match your viewing environment.
