Focal’s Bird system the perfect solution for those who want to minimize the size while maximizing the music. Other companies have tried this with varying success over many years, but Focal’s expertise in speaker design is both proven and invaluable in this type of project. Focal produce other superb small speaker systems which can be used with a range of amplifier solutions, but the Bird for the first time brings all the necessary parts together to form a unique small system with amazing sound.
The Power Bird amplifier (with onboard 24bit192kHz DAC) also houses a very compact powered subwoofer, making this 2.1 channel music system as neat and small as possible without compromising the sound quality too much. For the same reason there are very few control knobs on the Power Bird, with everything being directed instead into those bits that maximize audio quality. A Focal "Kleer Technology" dongle for your iPhone/iPod/iPad makes wireless transfer of music to the system easy and effective, while a USB dongle does the same for computers around the home. The Power Bird can be placed flat or vertically with no ill effect, to suit your accommodation needs.
There are three speaker options, the Bird, Little Bird and the Super Bird (flat format). These allow some tailoring to suit your personal preferences in sizing and placement.
The Little Bird 2.1 system is $1199, the Bird 2.1 system is $1399, while the Super Bird 2.1 is $1599.
The iTransmitter dongle ($149) connects to all those previous models of Apple device (iPod/iPhone/iPad) using the 30-pin connection. The latest models, released in Oct/Nov 2012 have a new type of connector and are not compatible with this particular dongle. Kleer Technology ensures high quality wireless transmission to the Bird system, so as long as you've stored your music at 320k or else Apple Lossless or above, you'll get very good results, comparable to a wired connection. This transfer method is superior to Bluetooth,
The same applies to the USB Transmitter ($149) which connects to any computer or music source with a USB output. This makes high quality wireless transfer from any of those sources easy, and as Focal says, it is comparable to using a wired connection.
