This is Rega's "budget" or entry-level turntable which draws on the excellent designs of their higher models. At a glance it looks just like them, with the same appearance of plinth, feet and lid, and even a similar looking RB100 one-piece tubular tonearm. Of course there had to be some adjustments to the build standard to make it cheaper, but the net result is that this is a more affordable model which achieves excellent sound, complete with the fitted Ortofon OM5e cartridge, but capable of even better sound if you upgrade the cartridge with something from Rega's range, or whatever you fancy. Here's a comment form the Stereophile review of the P1: "The all-English-made Rega P1 also marks the first time in recent memory that a high-tech company hasn't resorted to outsourcing in order to bring to market a high-quality, very-high-value product. Kudos to Roy Gandy for his ingenuity in doing so, and for keeping Rega's work among Rega's people."
