Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
You may have noticed that many Meridian Audio products feature the letters 'DSP' within their name. These three letters stand for 'Digital Signal Processing'; a technology that Meridian adopted over 25 years ago and have been perfecting ever since. In short, DSP enables The DSP7200 SE to achieve an extremely accurate reproduction of audio signals. This is one of the reasons why when you listen to a Meridian system, it feels as though the artist is right there in the room with you. One of the most exciting capabilities of DSP is the level of control and adaptability it offers. Here are just a few of the many revolutionary Meridian product features that would be simply impossible to reproduce in the conventional analogue domain...

Master Quality Authenticated [MQA] is a revolutionary end-to-end technology that delivers master quality audio in a file that’s small enough to stream or download. What’s more, it’s backwards compatible, so will play on any device. And because it’s fully authenticated, you can be sure you’re hearing exactly what the artist approved in the studio.

Enhanced Bass Alignment [EBA] enables accurate time-alignment of the high, mid and bass frequencies reproduced by our loudspeakers. This process ensures that all of the sounds reach your ear at the same time, providing exceptional imaging and a clear, transparent, life-like sound.

The effect of sound arriving before the picture is highly noticeable when watching your favourite movies and television shows. Many Meridian products feature Lip-Sync to perfectly realign the audio with the video so that you can become completely absorbed.

Meridian High Resolution [MHR] allows the secure movement of high resolution digital audio within a Meridian system, without degradation or loss in quality. Even with high-quality conventional analogue circuitry, unwanted noise and degradation to sound quality are inevitable.By digitally processing audio signals instead, they are able to retain absolute precision, resulting in a sound that is natural, three-dimensional and remarkably easy to listen to.

Meridium. Loudspeaker enclosures often vibrate, colouring the sound, making it less lifelike. Our most advanced loudspeakers use a cabinet construction material unique to Meridian: Meridium features highest-grade laminated plywood layers bonded to an aluminium core, allowing the loudspeaker to reproduce music accurately without adding its own sound.

Speakerlink. Traditional audio systems often require large, expensive cables to maintain their performance. Meridian's SpeakerLink uses an “Ethernet style” cable that delivers pristine digital sound and control down a single cable between Meridian components. The result is simple, unobtrusive, and cost-effective cables that are easy to install.

Fifo Buffing. Each sample of a digital recording must remain evenly spaced in time. Unfortunately, timing can vary, especially when reading discs. This is “jitter”, degrading music's sense of space and diminishing realism. Meridian's multiple “First In, First Out” buffering system minimises jitter, ensuring perfect timing and improved clarity. You enjoy a clearer feeling of the instruments and their interrelationship.

Who are Meridian?
Since 1977, Meridian Audio has been crafting innovative, elegant, high performance audio solutions. From its compact DSP loudspeakers with integrated amplification, to its user-friendly music management platform Sooloos, Meridian delivers easy to install, high resolution audio systems for home cinemas and whole home solutions. The Meridian Audio experience is now also available in the latest models from Jaguar Land Rover, thanks to a collaborative partnership between these two leaders of British innovation and engineering.

Where did it all begin?
Meridian Audio Ltd was founded by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd.

Prior to this, Bob Stuart studied at Imperial College, London, where his passion for music soon led him to specialise in audio design. Allen Boothroyd trained as a mechanical engineer, going on to study industrial design at the Royal College of Art.

Boothroyd and Stuart met in Cambridge, where they discovered shared interests and philosophies in audio equipment design. Their first collaboration was on the Lecson hi-fi system, a design so innovative that it’s now part of the permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.

“The Lecson made the leap from something that was not merely acceptable as a piece of audio equipment, but was actually desirable as an objet d’art,” Allen Boothroyd.

Bob and Allen founded Meridian in 1977 based on their joint belief in good audio engineering, good acoustical engineering, and the value of psychoacoustics – the understanding of how human beings perceive sound and how we respond to it.

Revolutionary Technologies and world firsts
These core values led to the first product from Meridian: the M1, an active loudspeaker system, unknown in consumer electronics at the time. Since then, Meridian products have gained extensive acclaim at home and abroad, winning the coveted Design Council Award for Outstanding British Product an unprecedented three times, the EISA European Product of the year award twice, and over 300 further international awards and accolades. Following the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1984, Meridian produced the world’s first audiophile-quality Compact Disc player, the MCD. Meridian went on to release the world’s first digital surround processor, and was ideally placed to take advantage of the explosion of the home theatre market. A string of other “firsts” followed.

Meridian’s achievements are not limited to the home with its systems found in McLaren and Jaguar Land Rover for whom it is the sole audio brand partner.
