Flat Screen TV
Flat screen TV’s have come a long way in a very short period of time. From very humble (and very expensive) beginnings the performance of most flat screen TV’s are way beyond of what we could imagine a decade ago.
For some time we witnessed the resolution war – we did not even have a fixed standard for High Definition in this country. Today every TV that we sell is 1080p specification, the highest resolution commercially available today.
The market is still split between LCD and Plasma formats, a conflict that we believe will be with us for some time. Misinformation continues to be rife, mostly around so-called LED TV. LED TV in its true form does not commercially exist. A so called LED TV is in reality an LCD TV with LED backlighting instead of the more conventional florescent backlighting.
The big secret in buying a flat screen TV is to have a look for yourself. Do not rely on journalist press, in most cases they are simply rehashing the press release sent out by the manufacturer. Decide on which screen gives you the best and most balanced rendition of colours (including black.)
This does not mean which screen is the brightest!
If in doubt seek out your local specialist.
